Congress’ foreign aid vote a couple weekends ago was productive in not only releasing funding, but also revealing party dynamics. Mike Johnson showed — yet again — he was willing to buck the Freedom Caucus to work with Democrats. Hakeem Jeffries showed — yet again — he was willing to buck progressives to work with Republicans. It would be unreasonable to expect this coalition to hold for all legislation (nor should it), but can it hold for other legislation? They keep proving it’s possible. We’ll see if they make a habit of it.
