Today’s link was going to be about Kamala Harris’ avoidance of the press. As of Friday, nearly three weeks after becoming the putative Democratic nominee, Harris had taken questions from her press pool for — and I’m not making this up — two and a half minutes. That’s not good, it’s a big deal, and I will get to it tomorrow.
I saw today’s column, though, I don’t know how long it will be ad-free, and I think it’s a valuable read. The author is a Christian conservative making the case for why he is voting for Kamala Harris. That case goes something like this: the Republican Party needs to lose once and for all with Trump so it can rebuild. While the author could make his argument from a political perspective, he makes it from a Christian one.
Some subscribers might see either the source or the author of today’s link and dismiss it out of hand. I hope you’ll stick with it. I occasionally come across takedowns of his columns and, put kindly, find them wanting. The writers don’t take his words out of context so much as inject them with a menace that just isn’t there. But that’s the point of those line-by-line takedowns. Pundits in either party could do that with what I’ve written today. (From the right: “‘Today’s link was going to be about Kamala Harris’ avoidance of the press.’ Sure it was. Then the press flashed some shiny Trump story in your face and you took off after it like a dog.” Now from the left: “‘…Harris has taken questions from her press pool for — and I’m not making this up — two and a half minutes...’ Two and a half minutes? Oh no! Whatever shall we do? Maybe she doesn’t answer your questions because you’re too busy looking at your stopwatch.” Tell me that doesn’t sound like them. Also, tell me that doesn’t sound like a defensive eighth grader. Finally, tell me why we’re getting our commentary from defensive eighth graders.)
With that inanity still ringing in your brain, give today’s column a look and enjoy the dulcet tones of thoughtful dissent.
(If for some reason you aren’t able to access this link, I will repost it later this week once it’s syndicated.)
