Today’s link is coming to you early in the day because I don’t want it to disappear behind a paywall. Damon Linker is one of the left’s best columnists. Like Bill Scher, he was one of my earliest discoveries running this site and I’ve followed him wherever he’s gone, from The Week to his Substack Eyes on the Right to its reincarnation Notes from the Middleground, which I happily pay for. Like so many site favorites, Linker is clear-eyed about his side’s shortcomings and fair-minded about the other side’s, which would make sense — he used to be on the other side. I don’t always agree with his conclusions, but I do always know he came by them honestly.
It’s rare a piece of Linker’s comes up for free, and so I’m eager to share it with you. I hope you find his work as thoughtful and necessary as I do. If you do, please subscribe to Notes on the Middleground. It’s one of the best Substacks out there.
