Barely two weeks after an assassination attempt, our politics seems to be right back where it was. Democratic messaging has currently settled on targeting the Republican ticket as “weird,” an insult that enthusiastic Republicans will understandably internalize. Republican messaging has taken to calling the Democratic ticket “DEI,” an insult that enthusiastic Democrats and minority voters will understandably internalize. Then there’s the buzz around the new Harris campaign that ranges from frantically great to frantically awful and all measured emotions in between. Add to that speculation over Vice President Harris’ running mate, whether there will be another debate, whether this election will ever end… and your excuse for morning drinking is complete.
On top of all of this, President Biden yesterday announced his hopes for Supreme Court reform. If that makes you want to set an alarm to get an earlier jump on your drinking, I understand. But it might also not be necessary. There are a lot of things worth worrying about (very few of them politics related), and today’s author makes the compelling and even-handed case that the Supreme Court isn’t one of them. Reasonable people can disagree to be sure, but this a reasonable column worth considering.
So put that oversized snifter down (it’s for tips, not vodka), enjoy the link, and then your day.
