With all that happened last week, I expected the first column back to be about any number of things — bump stocks, Mifepristone, Hunter Biden’s conviction, Donald Trump’s return to Capitol Hill. Instead, it’s about none of them.
Today’s column is about the art of persuasion, specifically regarding an issue that, well, isn’t an issue anymore. Twenty years ago, opposition to gay marriage and ballot initiatives to that effect had a hand in getting George W. Bush reelected. Now, gay marriage has 70% support in the country. How did that happen? Can it happen again with other seemingly intractable issues? Today’s author thinks it can, at least as far as one matter is concerned. We’ll see.
