I spent the first three days after the election giving the national Democratic Party a hard time. I vowed to give the national Republican Party the same treatment and so here we are on Day Three.
At first, I planned to link to something this morning about Donald Trump’s choice of Dr. Oz to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Then I started to think I’d dreamt the whole thing up because it stopped appearing in my news feeds and, well, because it didn’t seem real. Apparently it’s true, though, which proves something I’ve long suspected — Donald Trump isn’t a subscriber. It’s okay. I’ll be fine. But yesterday I posted about the value of his picking nominees his voters can defend. For one thing, it shows his appreciation for their support. For another, it gives him defensible nominees. Anyhow, I’ve already addressed this, so I’ll move on to the day’s topic.
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, Trump’s chosen leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency, have set some lofty goals for trimming the government. Some might call those goals unattainable. Far be it from me to say, but today’s columnist has experience in the area and some thoughtful, restrained advice. Will Musk and Ramaswamy listen? I don’t know. It’s possible they aren’t subscribers either. But they’d be wise to at least entertain the author’s points. They could prove helpful.
