Over the course of running this website, I’ve had some variation of the same conversation with people (it’s a conversation I’m pretty sure we’ve all had). Someone mentions getting his news from a notoriously biased news source. I mention (hopefully with humility) that that might not be the best place to get information. The person responds that he has no interest in getting his news from the notoriously biased news source on the other side of the aisle, so what choice does he have.
It’s an understandable binary — I’m as guilty of resorting to it as anyone — except the choice isn’t binary. There are multiple news organizations out there and, while none of them is perfect, some are less imperfect than others.
Enter today’s link, which isn’t a column. It’s a website dedicated to aggregating articles from various news organizations and ranking each article’s bias. A good friend recommended it long ago and, to my everlasting shame, I forgot about it. When I saw him recently, he mentioned it again and it is now very, extremely bookmarked. I qualify almost everything I say — I just did it there — but I can tell you without reservation this website is worth your time. With Americans’ faith in mass media at a record low (69% have “not very much” to no trust at all in the media), today’s link is a brilliant remedy. I hope you agree… and remember to bookmark it.
