On why Donald Trump could lose...
Yesterday was about why Donald Trump might win the presidential election. Today is about why he might lose. It won’t surprise anyone to hear it really only comes down to one thing.
This election year, conditions favor Republicans to an almost comical degree. That’s not an endorsement of the Republican agenda. It’s just cold, political fact. This happens. Conditions favored Democrats so lopsidedly in 2008 they could have run a cracked window and run away with the thing. But Republicans aren’t running away with this election. They’re celebrating polls showing their guy tied with his opponent nationally, or up two points but within the margin of error in swing states. How is this happening? Feel free to answer my rhetorical questions aloud. No one blanches at the sight of solitary figures mumbling, “Donald Trump,” anymore.
As with yesterday’s link, I went back and forth on today’s. I don’t agree with everything the author says or how he says it, but it’s a pretty handy catalog of the reason (and subset of reasons within that reason) that this race isn’t already sewn up. So readers disappointed with yesterday’s link have their redemption today, readers who said, “Finally! Yes!” to yesterday’s link are stuck taking their medicine today, and we all get to watch a clip from “Airplane!” to sum up how things feel right now.
