If yesterday’s link was cold water for those of one political bent, today’s is cold water for those of another. Apparently I don’t want anyone happy. I also don’t want party talking points dictating post-debate conversation.
For example, did the moderators fact-check Donald Trump more than Harris? They did. They didn’t fact-check Harris at all, and I counted two particular attacks from her — the “fine people on both sides” and “bloodbath” lines — that could and should have been corrected in the moment. That the moderators failed to correct them is unfortunate — maybe even telling — but it’s not why Trump came up short.
For that explanation, I give you today’s link, written by a Trump supporter. Tuesday’s debate didn’t have to go like it did. Harris could have turned in the same performance and Trump still could have won. Maybe it won’t matter in the end, but this was a missed opportunity for Trump, not because of the moderators, but because of Trump.
