After taking almost three weeks off from politics, I’ve been surprised to come back and see where the race now stands. Mainly because it hasn’t moved. Snippets of stories I caught while I was away implied shifts in the race one way or another, but nothing. It’s a good reminder not to place too much importance on one (or two or three) developments. This likely applies to tomorrow’s debate because, barring any absolute train wrecks, debate bumps historically go the way of convention bumps.
Given that, I’m linking to something today unrelated to the debate. I used to link to this columnist a fair amount, then found he’d grown too strident. Today’s piece is a fair return to form, though. And at a time when each side’s news is fairly uniform in terms of stories covered (i.e., the election), this is a good window into a story one party is seeing that another likely isn’t.
