Outside of everyone in the world and me as recently as Friday, who ever said our news cycle was frantic? For the past week and a half, we’ve had the same story pasted on the front pages. I’ve covered Biden’s age a good deal in that time because it certainly is news. But other items worth focusing on, such as Supreme Court rulings beyond presidential immunity, have fallen through the cracks. Today’s piece covers those decisions (as well as presidential immunity) with a pretty moderate tone. I was initially reluctant to post it because I wanted to feature arguments for and against them. Then I heard last week’s Beg to Differ, during which never-Trump Republican David Frum and former Clinton administration official William A. Galston agreed on how unconcerned they were over the Court’s Chevron decision. When reasonable people with career-spanning policy differences agree that something won’t bring the nation crashing down, I’m inclined to listen to them. And when today’s columnist, a Yale Law School professor confirms it, I’m inclined to share the news. I hope it brings you as much peace as it has brought me.
